A Letter from the Dean
It is with great excitement and enthusiasm that I have accepted the position of founding dean for Touro University College of Medicine. The task ahead is formidable, the responsibility great, and the opportunity enormous.
I accept this responsibility with great humility, and understand that success will come based on building an exceptional and innovative team while gaining support from an embracing community. Together, we will build an outstanding college of medicine with exceptional educational programs and important research agendas, while advancing health care for our patients and communities. Our scholars will make new discoveries, our students will learn the latest scientific knowledge, our clinicians will role model the very best care, and all will remember that people are at the center of our missions: our patients, our students, our faculty, our staff, our communities. We will teach health care based in caring.
Touro is a Jewish-sponsored institution, and all, regardless of background, are welcome. This college of medicine will bring the best of the Jewish tradition and philosophy to our school, for example, the sanctity of human life, respect for each individual, the need to care for one another, the performance of acts of kindness, the goal to make this world a better place. We will embrace all, and recognize that we will be strengthened by bringing together people from diverse backgrounds.
I encourage you to read our statement of mission and values.
Touro University College of Medicine: Advancing health care through science, compassion and caring in education, research, and patient care. Welcome.
Paul M. Wallach, MD
